Invasion Description

Type Locality- Long Branch/NJ/Atlantic Ocean (1837, Williams 1984, Homarus americanus is common and native in northern shallow and deeper, cooler southern Continental Shelf waters of the region.)  At least two unsuccessful attempts were made to introduce it to inner Chesapeake Bay: Back River Light, Norfolk/VA/Hampton Roads (1884, Baird 1887, 63 lobsters stocked); 'ripraps'/VA/Chespeake Bay (1885, Barid 1888, 100 lobsters stocked)

Native Range: Cape Cod-Cape Hatteras/MA-NC/Atlantic Ocean (Williams 1984); MA/Vineyard Sound (USNM 2250, US National Museum of Natural History 2007); Newport/RI/Narragansett Bay (USNM 2213, US National Museum of Natural History 2007); Noank/CT/Noank Harbor/Long Island Sound (USNM 2214, US National Museum of Natural History 2007); Off Long Branch/NJ/Atlantic Ocean (USNM 14100, US National Museum of Natural History 2007); Off Cape Henlopen/DE/Atlantic Ocean (USNM 41505, US National Museum of Natural History 2007); VA/Atlantic Ocean (35 52- 38 49N, 73 23- 75 27 W, 15-274 m depth, Wass 1972, Musick and McEachran 1972); Cape Charles Light/VA/Chesapeake bay-Atlantic Ocean (Wass 1972)
