Invasion Description

Homarus americanus is common and native in deeper, cooler Continental Shelf waters adjacent to Chesapeake Bay. At least two unsuccessful attempts were made to introduce it to inner Chesapeake Bay: Back River Light, Norfolk/VA/Hampton Roads (1884, Baird 1887, 63 lobsters stocked); 'ripraps'/VA/Chespeake Bay (1885, Baird 1888, 100 lobsters stocked)
