Invasion Description

1st established record: Vancouver Island/British Columbia/Barkley Sound (2006, Gillespie 2007; Gillespie et al. 2007, 'limited natural reproduction and recruitment') 1st Record: WA/Puget Sound (plantings were unsuccessful at establishing populations, but hatchery-based culture continues, 1951, Carlton 1979).

Ostrea edulis is cultured in Puget Sound. Stocks raised in Puget Sound hatcheries have been exported to Europe, Japan, and elsewhere (Ruesink et al. 2005).
