Invasion Description

1st Record: Charleston/RI/Ninigret Pond (1980s, Carlton 1992)
1st non-established record: Milford/CT/Milford Harbor, Long Island Sound (stocked, 1949, spawning observed, Loosanoff 1955). No further definite records from Long Island Sound, until 2005. Recent occurrences are probably due to transport of oysters from the Gulf of Maine.

Tonset, Orleans/MA/Nauset Harbor (2007, MIT Sea Grant 2014); Milford/CT/Milford Harbor, Long Island Sound (stocked, 1949, spawning observed, Loosanoff 1955); Noank/CT/Fishers Island Sound (2005, Carlton, personal communication 2005); Charleston/RI/Ninigret Pond (1980s, Carlton 1992); Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Bourne, MA (August 2023, Naffinger et al. 2025). Robust wild population on floating dock pontoons.
