The date of first record is unknown. Menhennick et al. (1976) considered it possibly intorduced to the Neuse, Tar and Roanoke drainages. Smiith (1907) makes no mention of introductions in North Carolina, although as a commissioner of the US Fish Commission, he supervised many of them
