Invasion Description

Native range: Philippines-Indonesia/Sulu Sea(Siddall 1980); Luzon/Philippines/Baccor Bay (Native, Siddall 1980).

Introduced record: Ambon/Indonesia/Banda Sea (1994, 2013, Huhn et al. 2015).

Perna viridis is native to western Indonesia and the Philippines, but has been absent west of the Makassar Strait, Indonesia. Green Mussel populations have been seen in Ambon since 1994. Heavy mussel fouling on inter-island ferries is a likely vector (Huhn et al. 2015).
