Melita palmata is a free-living gammarid amphipod. It is native from the central Baltic to the Mediterranean, Black Sea, and Azores Islands. Introduced populations are known from Argentina, Columbia, and Massachusetts. Its establishment status in Boston is currently unknown. It can survive at varied temperatures and salinities and is found in shallow estuaries, salt marshes, mudflats, oyster beds, and fouling communities. There are no reported economic or ecological impacts for this species.
