Boveria teredinidi (Nelson 1923) is a ciliate parasite of shipworms, and was described from Barnegat Bay, New Jersey, from the Naval Shipworm (Teredo navalis), but is considered to be of unknown origin, like its cryptogenic hosts. On the Pacific Coast, its hosts include T. navalis, and Lyrodus pedicellatus. The likely date of introduction, was 1913, with the introduction of Teredo navalis, but the first report was by Pickard in 1927, from San Francisco Bay (cited by Carlton 1979). Boveria teredinidi ha been found in New Jersey, the Ivory Coast, India, and San Francisco Bay, and probably in other locations.
