Pselactus spadix is a flightless, wood-boring weevil which prefers moist timber, particularly when impregnated with seawater . It tolerates fresh to full-seawater, and while found mostly in coastal areas, has also been found in damp wood in inland areas. The larvae bore tunnels through damp wood, and the adults reside and breed in the tunnels. The adult weevil is about 1.5 mm long. This weevil is native to coastal Europe, from Norway to the Mediterranean, and has been collected on the Northeast coast of North America, California, and British Columbia. It has been found at inland locations, including a furniture store, but is typical of marine driftwood. In California, it was found boring wood in salt evaporation ponds next to San Francisco Bay, This insect can be damaging to wood pilings, and wooden boats.
