Geographic Extent

Gdansk/Poland/Gulf of Gdansk (1948, Jazdzewski et al. 2005; early records (1948, 1961, 1969) were sporadic, and single individuals, but abundant in 2006-2010, Hegle-Drywa and Normant 2014); Poland/Vistula Lagoon (1952, Grabowski et al. 2005; Jablonska-Barna et al. 2013); Klaipeda/Lithuania/Curonian Lagoon (2001, Olenin 2005; Bacevicius and Gasiunaite 2008);

Rhithropanopeus harrisii had a period of high abundance in the Vistula Lagoon for about 20 years after its first record, when its larvae dominated the local plankton (Jazdzewski and Konopacka 1993).

Rhithropanopeus harrisii is considered to play an important part in the benthic foodwebs of the Vistula Lagoon (Ezhova et al. 2005; Zaiko et al. 2011).
