Greece/Bay of Saros, Bay of Thessaloniki (1935,-1945 Enzenrob et al. 1997); Greece-Turkey/Aegean Sea (Enzenrob et al. 1997); Greece/Bay of Saros, Bay of Thessaloniki (1935, Enzenrob et al. 1997); Fanarion-Lagos/Greece/Aegean Sea (vicinity of Alexandropolis (formerly established, disappeared in 1978, Enzenrob et al. 1997); Greece-Turkey/Aegean Sea (Enzenrob et al. 1997); Turkey/Dalyan-Menderes Estuary, Aegean Sea (5 locations, 1985-1995, Enzenrob et al. 1997, rare to abundant); Turkey/Izmir Bay (8/6/2015, Dailianis et al. 2016); northern Greece/Lake Volvi, freshwater, 10 Km from Strymonian Gulf (11/2012, Petriki and Bobori, in Kapiris et al. 2013, 1 specimen, 400 40’ N, 230 28’ E); Chios Island/Greece/Eastern Aegean Sea (8/19/2013, Katsanevakis et al. 2014, 38.54073oN, 26.11214oE)

In Greek and Turkish waters, C. sapidus has in some years supported a substantial fishery, but seems to have had sharp declines since the 1980s, attributed to disease and pollution (Enzenrob et al. 1997).
