Invasion Description

1st record: Miami/FL/Biscayne Bay (1960, Moore and Frue 1974). Settlement of "Balanus amphitrite" was reported as early as 1946 by Moore and Frue (1959), but this could have included A. venustus. After 1960, "B. amphitrite amphitrite" was reported (Moore et al. 1974).

At a commercial paint-testing station in Biscayne Bay, Miami, Amphibalanus amphitrite comprised 12% of barnacles maturing on fouling panels (Moore and Frue 1959).
