Invasion Description

1st Record Orange County/CA/upper Newport Bay (2002, CAS IZ 161568, California Academy of Science 2005);

Geographic Extent

Orange County/CA/upper Newport Bay (CAS IZ 161568, California Academy of Science 2005); west side of Pacific Coast Highway bridge/CA/Anaheim Bay (2002, Andrew Chang, personal communication, 2000+ specimens; Chang et al. 2011). This snail was found by by Phil Liff-Grieff, an amateur malacologist found it abundant on east side of bridge on 80 m of shore , June 2004. Eradication was carried out in Sept. 2004. No L. littorea were seen in subsequent visits every 3-6 months. The size range was to 27 mm shell height, with no evidence of recruitment, and was typical of batches of snails sold in Asian markets: CA/Anaheim Bay (2002, Andrew Chang, personal communication, 2000+ specimens; Chang et al. 2011); CA/Newport Bay (1975, Carlton 1979, 1 specimen);
