Invasion Description

Cyprinus carpio was apparently present in the Ponto-Caspian Basin in Roman times (Balon, 1972), but DNA analysis of Danube carp suggests that they were introduced from Eastern Asia (Froufe et al. 2002). A Caspian Sea database treats this species as native there.(http://www.caspianenvironment.org/biodb/eng/fishes/Cyprinus%20carpio/main.htm).
