Invasion Description

1st Record: British Columbia/Pacific Ocean (location not given, first open-water culture. Imported in 1983 and kept in quarantine before outplanting, Gillespie et al. 2012). No reproduction has been reported. Culture operations have shifted to hybrids of hybrids between M. yessoensis and native Patinopecten caurinus (Sloan and Bartier 2000; Gillespie et al. 2012)

off Masset Island/Haida Gwai (Queen Charlotte Islands)/British Columbia/Hecate Strait (1997, Sloan and Bartier 2004; Gillespie et al. 2012, hybrids between M. yessoensis and native Patinopecten caurinus); North and Central Coast/British Columbia/Pacific Ocean (1998-2005, Gillespie et al. 2012); British Columbia/Georgia Strait (1999-2005, Gillespie et al. 2012); west coast, Vancouver Island/British Columbia/Pacific Ocean (2000-2004)

Aquaculture operations for purebred M. yessoensis and M. yessoensis X native P. caurinus hybrids have been successful, though no reproduction has been reported (Minchin 2003; Sloan et al. 2004; Gillespie et al. 2012).
