Spergularia media (Coast Sand Spurrey; Greater Sea-Spurrey) is a low growing plant of salt marshes, sea-shores, and saline soils. It is native to Europe , North Africa, and western Asia from Norway to Mauritania, and east to Kazakhstan. It is widely introduced around the world, including Chile, South Africa, and New Zealand. It has spread inland on salty roadsides and inland salt deposits including spots in the Great Lakes basin. It was collected in California (presumably San Francisco Bay in 1856, and is common in salt marshes around the Bay. It spreads out mostly horizontally, but can reach 100 mm in height.
