Date of 1st Record: Foster City/CA/Foster City Lagoon, South San Francisco Bay (1988, Greenberg et al. 1996)
The date refers to the first observation of medusae in the lagoon. Later morphological and molecular studies indicated that these medusae were distinct from the native A. labiata (Greenberg et al. 1996).

Dense populations of Aurelia coerulea sp. 1 clogged the pumps used to flush the Foster City Lagoon, an artificial recreational pool, and fouled beaches (Greenberg et al. 1996).
